Overview

The Kuehne School of Logistics and Management emerged from the renaming and enlargement of the HSL Hamburg School of Logistics on 1 October 2007. The HSL was founded in 2003 as a public-private partnership by the Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH) and the Kühne Foundation of Schindellegi, Switzerland, and quickly became one of the outstanding business schools for logistics management.

Background

The Kuehne Foundation, led by Hamburg native Prof. Dr. h.c. Klaus-Michael Kühne, has long felt the need to establish a top-rate institute aiming to assemble internationally renowned experts able to close the growing gap between business, research and education in the field of logistics. The TUHH turned out to be an ideal counterpart for this ambitious project as it is well-known as a young, innovative and successful German university with a leading position in logistics and engineering sciences. Furthermore, the city of Hamburg, a major logistics hub in Europe, offers a location advantage for a logistics school covering the increasing demand for logistics services.

Portfolio

On the TUHH campus the business school offers a full-time and a part-time in-service MBA study program in logistics management. Renaming as the Kuehne School of Logistics and Management marks the setting-up of two new master’s programs and a research center. In addition, the Kuehne School provides in-service further education courses, working parties and training sessions for logistics industry employees. Along with research activities of its own, the School supports and initiates practice-oriented projects in cooperation with business enterprises.
